Syndamy — Innocence

Sit down a minute.
I'm not here to lecture you.
I've just watched you do this for too long.
You say
I'm fine before anyone even asks.
You laugh at things that aren't funny to you.
You got a whole face to put on the door
And take off when you're alone.
I know, because
I did it too for years.

I figured out.
No matter what, who you love, who you stay for, what you actually feel.
Innocence.
You had it once before you learn to pretend.

It's all right to look weak.
Sometimes nobody strong ever got there by pretending.
You don't know anyone the version of you.
They decided only before they met you.
Your family's plans, your friends opinions.
The guy at work who thinks he's got you figured out.
None of them have to live your life.
You're the only thing
I figured out.
What matters is more.
Who you love, who you stay for, what you actually feel.
Innocence.
You had it once before.
You learn to pretend.
Innocence.
It's not gone.
It's right where you left it.
Start with what you really feeling over there.
You cried when it happened.
You laugh when it was funny.
That kid wasn't wrong about anything.
Go back to that.
But you learn to pretend.
Still right there where you left it.
Stop hiding.
Let them see you.
Oh, just right there.
